The closer you get to the truth, the more dangerous it gets.
FBI Agent Tom Hunter has been chasing down leads to find the brutal cult that damaged some of his closest friends. They managed to escape to tell their stories, but Eden's location has always remained a mystery.
Liza Barkley is struggling with her feelings for Tom and wonders if their friendship can survive the secrets they've kept from one another. But they may be forced to confront the truth when a chance to help the investigation puts Liza directly in the line of fire.
When the perpetrator of an attempted sniper attack on Liza and her friends is discovered to be one of the cult's leaders, DJ Belmont, it becomes clear that he is out to get revenge on the victims who escaped Eden's clutches.
But there is one person who has always had control over DJ, and who no one outside of Eden has ever glimpsed: cult leader Pastor. When a serious injury forces Pastor to seek help outside the confines of the Eden, Tom and his team finally have a chance to bring the cult down.
But DJ Belmont has his own plan, and is not going to stop until he gets what he wants...

Review
This is the third book in Rose's The Sacramento Series, however you certainly don't need to have read the first two books to enjoy this one. I haven't read them yet, but I was able to follow the storyline and characters quite easily, and it didn't feel like I was missing out on any information. But do be warned - there are a lot of characters in this book, and often going by multiple alias', that can make it difficult to keep track of who's who.
Whilst it appears like I took a while to read this book, I was coming out of a bit of a reader's slump, but this book has helped me rekindled that reading spark. Once I got out of my slump, it was incredibly difficult to put the book down. I was absolutely captivated with the story and needed to know what happened next straight away. Towards the end of the book, I just could not put it down. Which did lead to me staying up waaaaay too late (12.45am...) in order to finish it, but it was most definitely worth it.
The entire book was building up to something big - not just in the FBI's quest to find Eden but also between the sheets with Tom and Liza. And the ending did not disappoint.
If you enjoy your crime mixed in with a slow burn, friends-to-lovers' romance, then this is the book for you. The friendship / romance between Tom and Liza does not take away from the main story of finding Eden and bringing down the cult. If anything, it adds to the suspense towards to end of the book; whilst also keeping the characters very much human and relatable.
Be prepared for the bodies to pile up - DJ Belmont is an incredibly deranged man who will stop at nothing and nobody in his quest to get what he wants.
